Brett Nickell

November 3, 1980 — October 8, 2013

Brett Kelly Nickell passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2013 in San Diego, California. He was 32 years old.
Brett was born to Debra Ann Duffy Nickell and Kelly Brian Nickell on November 3, 1980 in Bountiful, Utah. He spent his early years in Boise, Idaho, moving to El Segundo, California at the age of six where he enjoyed going to the beach and Disneyland. Lots of summers were spent at the family cabin in McCall, Idaho.
Brett enlisted in the U.S. Marines on March 27, 2000 and rose to the rank of Sergeant as an Aviation Ordinance Specialist and served multiple tours overseas to include…Afghanistan, Iraq and more recently Kuwait. He also spent three years in Iwakuni, Japan where he fully embraced the Japanese culture. He was truly an Adventurer in that he loved to explore the earth whether it be from the bottom of the ocean or from the advantage point of the highest mountain. He hiked, biked, ran, scuba dived, and explored as often as he could. Brett loved all the critters of the earth, especially the cute and fluffy ones. Even wild animals would approach Brett to be petted to the amazement of onlookers.
Brett is survived by his wife, Mieko, his mother, Debra Blaser, his father, Kelly Nickell, his only sister, Crystal Blaser, and brothers Chase Blaser and Trevor Nickell. Grandmothers Kathleen Nickell and Karen Duffy. Preceded in death by Grandfathers, Dale Duffy and Richard Nickell. Brett also leaves behind an extendeded family of cousins, aunts, uncles and of course his Marine “brothers”. He will sorely be missed.
Funeral Services will be held on 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19th at the LDS Canyon Estates Ward Building located at 965 E Oakwood Drive, Bountiful, Utah 84010. A viewing will be at the same location just prior to the services from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm.
