Brian Lloyd Platt, the eldest of 11 children, was born on August 19, 1956 to Lloyd Easton and Fern Josephine Platt in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away suddenly on August 15, 2016.
After graduation from East High School, Brian served as an LDS missionary to the Chile Santiago Mission from 1975 to 1977. While working on his Master's Degree in mathematics at the University of Utah, he met and married Tanya Lee Powell in the Salt Lake Temple on April 5, 1984. He graduated in June of 1985. They were blessed with five children, of whom he was very proud. His life revolved around the love for his wife and family and the faith he had in the gospel of Jesus Christ. His fondest dream of becoming a grandpa was met 10 months ago and he loved spoiling his grandson.
Brian was a hard worker, having 8 different jobs after high school before landing in his career as a computer programmer for Intermountain Healthcare for over 36 years. He was well admired and loved by his co-workers and loved "saving the day" in his programming skills.
He enjoyed meeting and serving people wherever he went and his favorite callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was working with the young men, as Pres. of the Elders Quorum, as a Stake High Councilman (he loved speaking in church), as a member of the Bishopric, and lastly as a Church Service Missionary to our local Branch. He enjoyed singing in church choirs and small groups.
Brian loved math and science in all their forms and loved to impart his knowledge to others through conversation and tutoring. He had a love of logic puzzles, math books, games, classic rock 'n' roll, movies, art (a talent for cartooning), a soft spot for dogs and cats, amateur acting, singing (but not dancing), the Spanish language (he was "Mr. Banana" to the elementary schoolchildren he helped in West Valley City), people, children, and babies (his unique bounce would calm any baby). He had a wonderful sense of humor and was kind and generous. Though he loved talking about such things as "quantum mechanics and the nature of reality", his faith was strong in his testimony of Jesus Christ.
