Bruce Webb Albretsen, (86) passed away, Thursday, June 21, 2018, with family at his side. He suffered a cardiac arrest while volunteering at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a Korean War veteran, he loved helping his fellow veterans at the VA. He was recognized as outstanding volunteer of the year in 2017.
Bruce was born in his great-grandmother's home in Hyrum, Utah on March 10, 1932, the second child of seven, to Jule and Guelda Albretsen. He grew up on a farm milking cows, riding horses and hauling hay. As a teen, he maintained the farm while his father was away working in Pocatello Valley. He graduated from South Cache High School in 1950. He joined the Navy a year later and served as a medical corpsman. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He served the next two years as an LDS missionary in the Central Atlantic States Mission. Bruce married Connie Chugg, June 11, 1958 in the Logan Temple (They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary). He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education with a minor in mathematics and french from Utah State University in 1961. He worked as a computer programmer until 1967, then decided he would rather be a teacher. He taught math at Logan High School, Logan Junior High School, and eventually fourth grade at Ellis Elementary. While teaching he obtained a master's degree in secondary education from USU. He concluded his teaching career after 9 years at Many Farms High School in Arizona. He farmed in the summers, working his own farm land in Cache Valley.
Bruce was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With his wife, he served a mission in the Logan LDS Employment Center and as Bountiful Temple workers for 12 years. He was a diligent home teacher and magnified callings extended to him.
One of Bruce's cherished family legacies is the wisdom shared through personal stories and knowledge gained as a life-long reader. He was loved by family and friends for being thoughtful, patient, kind and steadfast. His generosity will never be forgotten.
Bruce and Connie have four children, Judy (Bryon) Andreasen, Jay (Mary) Albretsen, Janice (Mark) Moulton, and JoAnn (Mark) Scovel. He also has 18 grandchildren and almost 23 great-grandchildren. He was a much-loved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
