Byron Snow Gibbs

February 21, 1923 — December 2, 2021

Byron returned to his heavenly home on December 2, 2021, at the age of 98. After 77 years of joyful companionship, he joins his late wife Midge, who passed 6 days earlier.

Bryon was born, February 21, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Snow Gibbs and LaVerne (McBride) Gibbs. He attended East High School and graduated from the University of Utah after serving in the Air Force during World War II. His closest friends in his youth were dance orchestra musicians who loved to dance. He could not resist being personally involved in the big-band era of popular music performance. He served his family, church, neighbors, community, and country because he loved them. They reciprocated by honoring his service as a husband, father, bishop, high councilor, quorum leader, teacher, missionary, assistant city treasurer and commissioner, governor of Mayflower Society of Utah, certified public accountant, budget director at ZCMI, and soldier.

His long life will be remembered and celebrated as wise, compassionate, and having a strong testimony of the gospel. With his wife, Midge, they completed five missions: a temple service mission, an area church service mission in the Philippines, a senior couple mission in Colorado, a Utah State Prison service mission, and a branch leadership mission at Utah State Veterans Nursing Home.

He is survived by his children; Randall (Kristine) Gibbs, Robert (Sandra) Gibbs, Cynthia (Franklin) Richards, Janet Gibbs Priddy, 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers, Wendell and Alden.
