C Michael Lefler

January 30, 1953 — September 24, 2023

Farmington

Clayton Michael Lefler, 70, passed away in the early morning hours of September 24th, 2023 at McKay Dee Hospital after significant medical complications. He was surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, their children, Celia (Kevin), Price, Leah, Mara (Chase), Sophia (Joseph), Lydia (Dathan), and their 6 grandchildren.

Mike was born in Provo, UT on January 30th, 1953 to Tharol and Marilyn Lefler. He grew up in Henderson, NV.  He was the oldest of five cherished siblings, Rodney, Dwyane, Patti, and Harold. He served in the Japan East mission (1972-1974). He attended Brigham Young University for his undergraduate degree and got his Masters in Social Work from the University of Utah. After school he started his occupation at DMBA, where he continued to work for 37 years until he retired in 2018. He met Elizabeth in Salt Lake City, UT  in May 1982. She was cutting railroad ties in her front yard when he first saw her, he offered to help, they danced in his apartment on their first date, and were married 4 months later on September 18th, 1982. They’ve been doing projects with each other for the last 41 years.

Mike was a creator, a wizard, a father, a chef, a painter, a welder, a Santa, a poet, an artist, and a philosopher of life. He loved the show Artful, House Hunters International, daily Harmons visits, new recipes, the concept of time, and problem-solving. In his younger years he was athletic; playing squash, racquetball, and most especially golf (4 handicap).  He was kind down the marrow of his bones. He always looked for ways to serve those around him. When he looked at you, it felt like he was looking at your soul.

He thought creatively in everything he did. He couldn’t abide small talk, but he loved deep spiritual and philosophical conversations. He loved his church callings, teaching Gospel Doctrine, and his Priesthood Quorum.  He showed his love through cooking elaborate foods, poetry, art, and his Christmas gifts each year.
After Mike’s passing his family found a poem he had written on July 16, 2023 and they wish to share it.

Going Home
I woke today,
Like every other day
Amidst the storms of life.
I did not fear
Being tossed to
And fro: directionless.
For I do not list.
My cargo, my soul,
Is firmly lashed to
The deck and I steer
My way, the way
My Captain directs,
For He knows
The storms and routes
To follow to bring
Me safely home.

He had requested we hold a celebration of his life. We will honor his request on October 7th, 2023 at 10:00 am, at the Compton Bench chapel, 850 N 300 W Farmington, UT 84025.
