Calvin Burningham

Biography

Calvin Dale Burningham died at the age of 85 on May 27, 2012 of natural causes related to age. A direct descendent of Mormon pioneers, he was born on July 5, 1926 at home in Bountiful, Utah. His parents were John Asa Burningham of Bountiful and Priscilla Ann Warner Burningham of Moab. He grew up working in the fields around Bountiful which became a life-long love of gardening and landscaping. He joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Guam during World War II seeing action in the South Pacific.
He worked for several companies before being hired at Kennecott Copper Corporation. He worked there for 27 years, retiring in 1978. During that time he also ran a small landscaping business.
He married Lois Mary Huston in 1947, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They remained married until her death in 2001. He is survived by his six children, Cathy Lynn Derrick (Jerry), Marilyn Gayle Getts, Barbara Ann Haynes, Bonnie Lee Olson (Wayne), Dale Scott (Nickie) and Rebecca Marie Ahearn (Robert). He has both grandchildren and great grandchildren.
An active walker and occasional bike rider, he walked long distances into his eighties. He loved dancing with his daughters in the kitchen, with his wife at the Moose Lodge, and later at the Bountiful Senior Citizen Center. He traveled widely in the West, enjoyed western movies, especially anything that starred The Duke. He read and re-read books of local history. The phrase “Let’s go up the canyon,” meant that it was time to pack up dinner and head for Mueller Park. Family vacations were generally camping and fishing. He always considered Bountiful his true home and wanted his final resting place to be in Bountiful along with other members of his family.
A graveside service will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary , 295 N. Main Street.
The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy House of Bountiful and Aspire Hospice for their assistance during our father’s final months.

A graveside service will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary , 295 N. Main Street.
