Carl Richard Meek

Carl Richard Meek, 68, passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2023, in Bountiful, Utah.  He was born in Preston, Idaho on April 12, 1955, to Richard and Lucy Meek.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. He served under several bishops as a clerk. Scouting was dear to his heart. He served a mission in Sapporo, Japan. He was married and sealed in the Idaho Falls temple in 1977 to the love of his life – Chelane Anne Scherbel.  He had two children -- Catherine and Christie.  He recently adopted two of his grandchildren – Kinder and Dane.

Carl attended a radio school during his teenage years in California and then became a disc jockey for a local radio station in Pocatello, Idaho.  He was “Carl R., in your ear.”  He also worked for a TV station and did voices for commercials.  He graduated from Highland High School where he was active in debate and drama.  He attended Idaho State University and studied electrical engineering and later continued his studies at the University of Utah.  He worked for KSL where one of his jobs was to do technical support for the Sunday morning broadcasts on Temple Square.  After working for KSL, KUTV, and Skaggs Telecommunications, he developed a passion for computers and worked in IT for 20 plus years.  His job at Utah Scientific took him to Florida twice and back to Utah.  He started his own computer consulting company called CDR Infosys (Carl’s “darn” revenge) where he worked on computer information systems. He finished his career working for the State of Utah in the IT Department.

He was certified in scuba diving and enjoyed skiing and boating.  He loved his cabin up on the lake outside of Soda Springs, Idaho.

He is survived by his beloved computer; his wife, Chelane; his daughter, Christie (Brandon); and his eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lucy; brother, Earl; daughter, Catherine and many other loved ones.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 10:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 3350 South 100 East, Bountiful, Utah.  Friends may visit with family that morning at the church from 9-10 a.m.

Carl will be laid to rest following the service at the Riverdale Hill Crest Cemetery in Idaho.
