Carma Burningham Lunt, 87, died at her home in Layton, Utah on the 29th day of December 2016 in the company of family.
She was born March 26, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of Durrell Thomas (Dick) Burningham and Clara Murdock Burningham. She graduated from Davis High School. She married H. Douglas Lunt on August 21, 1950 in Bountiful, Utah; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Carma and Doug raised their children in Cedar City, Utah and Lander, Wyoming. She was a member of the L.D.S. church and served in many positions she especially enjoyed: working in youth programs, teaching seminary and serving as an LDS social services caseworker.
Carma had a quick mind and enjoyed trying new things. She loved a challenge. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and cake decorator. She was active in her community. She served as president of the school board and as a campaign manager. Once her children were older, she worked in the court system in Wyoming and then for Blue Cross Blue Shield when they moved back to Utah.
Carma is survived by her children, Steve (Linda) Lunt of Algonquin, Illinois; Scott (Janet) Lunt of Pocatello, Idaho; Kirk (Vicki) Lunt of Gainsville, Georgia; Sharon (Kevin) Wilkinson of Prague, Czech Republic; and Renee (Kirk) Nicholls of Layton, Utah; 26 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and a sister, Dixie Burningham of Dana Point, California. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Deane, her husband, both parents, a son, Mark Lunt and daughter-in-law, Roylene Lunt.
There will be a short viewing on Saturday, January 7 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary in Farmington, Utah (1941 North Main). The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Fairfield Village of Layton for their love and many acts of kindness. Thanks to the Layton Branch of the Davis County Library for making it possible for her to continue her love of reading after she lost her sight.
