Carol Peterson passed away in Bountiful, UT with her children surrounding her on June 23, 2016 due to complications brought on by Alzheimer's disease. She was born February 20, 1938 in Washington, D.C. to Carl Ernest Brown and Elizabeth Dorothea Marie Todd. Carol met her sweetheart, Bruce Ross Peterson, while attending Brigham Young University and they married in the Salt Lake temple on August 5, 1957. Carol and Bruce raised seven children together, served two LDS missions, and spent their lives caring for others.
Carol loved autumn leaf drives, picnics, reading to her grandchildren, baking Christmas goodies, and serving in the temple. Carol's greatest passion in life was her family; virtually everything she did was with an eye toward their happiness and spiritual development. She was a wonderful hostess and cook and enjoyed nothing so much as having family and friends in her home. She had a knack for making everyone around her feel loved and accepted and was the most selfless person her children knew.
Carol suffered from severe scoliosis and its associated physical pain for decades. In her later years she suffered from increasing dementia. Through these trials her most famous quote continued to be: "You don't have to look very far to find someone worse off than yourself." Her faith and trust in the Lord, regardless of circumstance, and her willingness to accept His will become her lasting legacy now to all who knew her.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce. She is survived by her sister (Linda Wallis); her seven children: Eric Peterson (Cyndi); Karen Williams (Doug); Jeanette Harris (Gregg); Julie Bastian (Eric); Todd Peterson (Katherine McEntee); Lisa Merrill (Brian); and Shaun Peterson (Angela); 38 grandchildren; and a growing number of great-grandchildren.
Carol's children would like to thank the residents and staff at Heritage Place Assisted Living & Memory Care for their love, friendship, and service during her final months. It has been an honor to associate with such great people.
