Carol Demars Gray peacefully completed her earthly experience on December 14, 2013, at the age of 90. Carol is survived by her two sons: Steven Alan (Sharon) Gray of Centerville, and Dennis Robert (Donna) Gray of Bountiful, 4 grandchildren: Stefanie (Mike) Embrey, Kirk (Jennifer) Gray, Scott Gray, Shaunna (Travis) Burbidge, 9 great-grandchildren, her brother Theron Demars, and brother-in-law Charles Gray. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Smith Gray, her sister Donna Demars Briggs, and granddaughter Christine Gray.
Carol was born in Ogden, Utah on March 8, 1923 to Earl James Demars and Eva May Sim.
She met her husband Peter at the Coconut Grove Dance Hall just two weeks prior to his WWII Army service deployment to India. They corresponded during his service and in November 1945 he returned to Utah to get reacquainted. After a brief courtship, they were married on May 17, 1946 in Salt Lake City. She raised her family and lived most of her life in Bountiful, and after a brief stint in St. George she and her husband moved back to Centerville where she lived until her passing.
Carol worked as a cost accountant for over thirty years for both Fort Douglas and Hill Air Force Base. She thoroughly enjoyed hunting, painting, traveling, and golf; and without a doubt her first love was bowling. She was a decorated competitive bowler from age 17 to age 90. Carol stopped participating in weekly tournaments just a few months ago, and only because a debilitating shoulder injury left her unable to lift her ball. She was incredibly active and independent to the end, and it was not unusual to find her up on a ladder taking care of some household project that needed to be done.
We would like to express appreciation to her family, friends, neighbors and the staff at Lakeview Hospital and CNS Hospice who assisted with her care and aided in her peaceful passing.
Services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main where friends and family may call from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, and Friday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m.
