Carol Lynn Graham Gwynn

February 14, 1943 — September 5, 2024

“I’ll stay ‘till the wind changes.” Like Mary Poppins, Mom left when it was time. She passed away peacefully, September 5th, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Carol Lynn Graham Gwynn was born on February 14, 1943, to Irvin L. and Laura Graham. She wed her eternal companion, J. Wallace Gwynn, on September 20th, 1963, after meeting at the University of Utah on a blind date. They will be celebrating their 61st wedding together this year, and it will truly be a heavenly celebration. She believed in him and supported him in his academic endeavors, typing his papers, including his thesis, on her manual typewriter, as well as being a seamstress and a secretary for Bountiful Power, while Wally earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Utah.

Carol instilled in her family a love of animals, music, reading, education, and home cooked meals, she was quick to gather everyone up to cheer at soccer, baseball, and basketball games, and to applaud at musical concerts. She played the cello in youth symphonies growing up, and community orchestras as an adult. Her greatest love was the piano, though, and she often filled the home with beautiful music. She enjoyed listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, church music, Christmas music, and showtunes, and helped her children appreciate the power of music. Mary Poppins was her favorite movie, and would often apply the lessons learned in the movie to real life. Winnie the Pooh was often read, and the subtle humor made her happy. She taught her children to always be kind to others, no matter how anyone reacted. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she loved decorating the home to reflect the spirit of the holiday. Disneyland at Christmas (or any time of the year) was her favorite place to go, and many happy memories were made as a family there with her over the years.

Carol’s yard had flowers wherever you looked, and she loved planting and cultivating delicious vegetables for amazing home cooked meals. We’ll never forget her homemade caramels, fudge, and sugar cookies. She also taught her children and grandchildren how to cook; her caramel lessons were particularly delicious. Her quilting and sewing skills were practically perfect in every way. She taught her grandchildren and many other children piano lessons using the Suzuki method, and sewing lessons as well. She ‘adopted’ many friends’ children and was loved by many. Her presence will be truly missed.

She is survived by her two daughters and three sons: Christine (Bruce) Osterhout, Eileen Gwynn, John (Marie) Gwynn, Robert (Emily) Gwynn, and Richard (Melissa) Gwynn. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Aubrey (Joseph) Holmgren, Brayden Gwynn, Devin Gwynn, Emma Gwynn, Ethan Gwynn, Hyrum Gwynn, Joseph Gwynn, Kaylee Gwynn, Megan Miller, Nolan Gwynn, Sandra Miller and Savannah Gwynn and one great grandchild Robert Miller. She is preceded in death by her eternal companion Wally and her parents.
