Carol Lee Manning

December 22, 2024 — April 9, 2024

We are sad to announce the passing of Carol Lee Manning, aged 86, on April 9, 2024 in the wee hours of the morning. She resided at Legacy House of Bountiful with her loving husband, Rick, by her side throughout her battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Carol Lee Nielsen was born at home on December 22, 1937 in Chadron, Nebraska to her parents Jacob Johannes Nielsen and Maggie Pearl Thrasher.

Carol loved to laugh and recall how, when coming home from school, she always ran as fast as she could to avoid the other kids. She was very shy. Carol did not realize her strength and talents were her sense of humor, quick wit, and ability to express her love and appreciation for others. Carol courageously overcame her shyness throughout her life by bringing much happiness and joy into the lives of those around her.

Carol met and married Jimmy Deans in Chadron. They had four children together, Jonathan, Cindy, Joe, and Lesa, whom they raised in Torrance, California.

In 1980, Carol moved to Bountiful, Utah to be near family. Together, Saundra and Carol helped care for their aging parents until their passing.

Carol was a devoted caretaker and spectacular cook all her life. Once an empty nester, she decided to work in the kitchen of a local care center where her sister RWilda worked. Later, she opened her own child daycare business which she loved and which brought her great joy and happiness.

On March 20, 1999, Carol married her long-time family friend and soul mate, Richard Manning. Rick embraced her family as his own, and she finally enjoyed a happy ever after with a man whose belly laughs could rival her own.

Carol and Rick took many long-distance road trips together to visit family and friends. Camping was one of their many favorite things to do together, which they did often with children and grandchildren. In their final decade, they relocated to Bountiful, once again, to live across the street from her sister Thelma and niece Audrey Gustafson, bringing them great comfort and togetherness in their golden years.

Carol had many special hobbies and enjoyed a host of things. She was able to do anything she put her mind to. Everything she touched turned to GOLD whether it was writing poetry, crocheting, reading, cross stitching, sewing, singing, mending broken hearts, cooking, home improvement, playing games, thrift-store shopping, repairing broken treasures, listening to music, dancing, laughing, teasing…and much more. She was a terrific prankster, and she especially loved her family.

Carol was a beautiful person, inside and out. We shall miss her twinkling blue eyes, rosy cheeks, contagious smile, mischievous glances, delightful laughter, gentle touch, and in every other way we each know, remember, and cherish her in our hearts.

Unsurprising to anyone who loved and knew her, she maintained her infectious laugh and sharp sense of humor until the end.
