Carol Openshaw Partain, daughter of Lillian and Joseph Openshaw, born July 27, 1936, lost
her long, and hard fought battle against kidney cancer on October 7, 2018.
After a youth spent in Kaysville, Utah, Carol lived throughout the U.S., and Europe, before
settling in Bountiful. She enjoyed her travels, and especially her time spent in Greece, the
Oregon coast, and the Wapiti Valley in Wyoming.
Carol retired from an accounting career at Hill AFB where she was recognized for her
dedication, innovation, and professionalism, and where many of her dearest friendships were
born.
Carol was a phenomenal woman in all the ways most mothers are, but also because she was
one of the most loving people you could ever meet. Throughout her life, she faced many
hardships, the kind that flatten many folk, but also much joy, all of which built the kind of
strength, and strength of character, few can muster. Carol was one of life's beautiful souls.
She was so very loved, and will be greatly missed.
Carol was born of good English stock, was a masterful stick-figure artist, a lover of sunshine,
and a friend to everyone who met her.
She is survived by son, Geoff Partain, and step-daughter Janice Pope, as well as her large
extended family in Utah, and abroad. Carol is preceded in death by sisters Velma Jane
Hallman, and Maurine McDonald Etzel, and infant sisters LaVerne, and Norma Joy Openshaw,
as well as grandkitties, Buggy and Sophie.
Carol's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Utah Cancer Specialists, as
well as her primary care physician, Dr. Southworth, for their loving care over the years.
Friends are invited to make a donation to the Kidney Cancer Association in Carol's memory in
lieu of flowers. www.kidneycancer.org/donate/
