Carol Roberts

July 4, 1935 — February 18, 2014

Carol Phillips George Roberts passed away on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014. She was born July 4th, 1935 in Springville, Utah. She is the second child and only daughter of Floyd and Hilda Phillips. She spent her youth on the Phillips Brothers Ranch in the heart of Hobble Creek Canyon 10 miles east of Springville. In 1955 she bundled up her few belongings and crossed the Atlantic by steam ship to reunite with Frank Rodger George of Bountiful/Montana, “her G.I.”, in Germany. They were married on October 18th, 1955 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957. She often referred to their first year together in Germany as magical, in spite of the cold cramped living quarters. Upon returning to Bountiful, she spent the next 56 years of her life in three separate houses all located on 400 north and 1000 East in Bountiful, one next to the other. For more than two decades Carol was a fixture in the Bountiful 16th ward primary, the church names for the eight year-old class may have changed from Targeteer to Valiant, but the teacher did not. She loved her time in the primary. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and wore out her body and mind extending herself in service to anyone in need. There were no strangers in Carol’s home, merely recent additions to her family. Her two trips to the Holy Land were great sources of inspiration to her. Carol’s devotion to her family took many forms throughout her life, everything from daily doses of herbal supplements to “gifts of the heart”. In her later years that devotion took the form of much treasured volumes and volumes of scrap books for her children and grandchildren.
Carol and Frank were blessed with four sons and one daughter, Zach (Kris), Wade (Jennifer), Brett (Sherry), Chad (Karen) and Katrina Sandgren (Marty). In 1985 at the age of 50, Carol was widowed when Frank died of a sudden heart attack. On July 5th, 1997, she married William Reed Roberts and they have been unfailingly at one another’s side ever since that sunny day in July.
She is preceded in death by her parents Hilda and Floyd Phillips, her first husband Frank George and her oldest son Zach George. She is survived by her husband Reed, his 5 children, Sandy (Brent), Reg (Debbie), Amy, Caren (Bruse) Meg (Gary), grandchildren and many great grandchildren, by her brothers Loren (RaNae) Phillips, Don (Sheila) Phillips, by four of her children, 16 grandchildren and 8 soon to be 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Bountiful 16th Ward chapel located at 720 East 550 North , Bountiful. Friends may visit family Friday, February 21, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
