Carole Anne Fuhriman Schvaneveldt

February 6, 1937 — May 15, 2016

The world lost a warm and wonderful smile and we lost our fun loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend when she quietly left us Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the age of 79.

Carole was born February 6, 1937 in Logan, Utah to Otto and Mildred Fuhriman. She grew up with a wonderful example in her parents of living a generous life and finding laughter in many things. Carole was gifted at being able to use laughter to put everyone at ease and especially in her ability to laugh at herself during difficult times. Carole was always up for fun and seeing new places. She loved taking pictures of friends and family and preserving memories in memory books. She spent a great deal of time recording important events. She was a beautiful calligrapher and enjoyed creating scrapbooks while watching reruns of old comedies – Mom never got tired of the Carol Burnett Show and musicals. She enjoyed riding horses, hiking, skiing, and ice skating. Carole mastered the art of bread making: wheat bread, french bread and rolls were her specialty. She loved baking and sharing with family and friends.   She was respected and loved as a fun, supportive and thoughtful friend and neighbor to many who were fortunate enough to have crossed her path.

Carole left Logan to live in San Francisco after attending the University of Utah. She then chose to serve an LDS mission in the Netherlands in 1959. While on her mission, she developed a love for the Dutch people, Dutch chocolate and tulips. Before reporting home from her mission, she received permission to delay her return and spent two months touring Europe and Egypt with her sister Jan and a dear friend.  After returning home she reconnected with Darrell Schvaneveldt, a young handsome missionary from Preston, Idaho she had met while serving in Holland. Carole and Darrell were married in the Logan LDS Temple for time and all eternity on June 20, 1963. Carole was proud of her six children: Laura Hadley, Mike, Stacy (Mark) Hadley, Kathy (Mike) Shappart, Gary (Sarah), Steve (Jessica).  She loved being a grandmother to ten grandchildren; Blake, Joshua, Taylor and Meghan, Alex, Kody (Kiera), Tony (Amanda) Dylan, Ella and Duncan, as well as 5 great grandchildren: Micah, Seth, Tatum, Sybella, and Eden. She delighted in their accomplishments, art work and sharing her love of music with them.

Carole was an accomplished musician and played the organ, and piano. She loved music and spent a great deal of time mastering both instruments. She served in many church callings and loved serving as the ward organist for many years as well as the organist for the LDS Bountiful Temple. Carole built a career in the clerical field and worked as the office manager for the office of Legislative Research and General Counsel for the State of Utah before retiring.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, her parents Otto and Mildred Fuhriman, her brother Richard Fuhriman and sister Janice Dubach.

The family would like to thank the staff, especially the CNAs, at Heritage Place as well as the hospice nurses and staff from Brighton Hospice for the dignified care they provided.

Mom, we love you dearly. Thank you for the incredible lesson you taught us by example the past few years on living with grace and humor during adversity.  Your smile and laugh are forever in the hearts of your family and friends.
