Carole Oliver Matheson

July 15, 1937 — July 8, 2017

Carole Jean Oliver Matheson was born on July 15, 1937 in Washington, D.C. and passed away on July 8, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Carole was the daughter of Orville James Oliver and Ruby Lee Hurt.  She married Robert Taylor Matheson on September 5, 1958 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 14, 1960. Robert and Carole welcomed five children into their family: Michael (Carie), Scott (Beka), Julie Cartwright, Karin Beckstrand, and Amy (Mark) Waldron.

Carole graduated from William Howard Taff High School in Chicago, Illinois.  Carole met Bob at Wright Jr. College where she earned her Associates Degree. She returned to school after raising her children to earn a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in Education and a Master’s from Utah State University.

Carole worked as a teacher at West Bountiful Elementary for 18 years.  She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Family History Library for many years after retiring from teaching until the time of her death. She was passionate about researching family history. Carole was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to read, camp, and travel. She visited numerous countries around the world, along with almost every state in the US. Her family was her greatest joy and she loved spending time with them.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital for all their tender care during mom’s final days.

She is survived by her 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 4 great granddaughters, and sisters Bette (Don) Kash, Gayle (Michael) Albanese, and Susan Preglow. Proceeded in death by husband, parents, brother Dwan, stepfather, brother-in-law Ken Preglow and son-in-law Mark Beckstrand.

Funeral Services and Viewing will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the LDS Woods Cross First Ward building located at 2064 S. 800 W., Woods Cross, Utah.  Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
