1932 Carolyn 2024

Carolyn Hall Ferguson

May 13, 1932 — October 12, 2024

Carolyn Hall Ferguson passed away on October 12, 2024, at the age of 92.

Carolyn was married to Warren Sharp Ferguson on August 24, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. The have five children: Brian Earl Ferguson – North Salt Lake, UT; Vicky Lynn (Neal) Perry – Murray, UT; Joan (David) Denson – Bountiful, UT; Jean (Bruce) VanderToolen – West Bountiful, UT; and James Paul (Marie-Lise) Ferguson – North Salt Lake UT. Warren and Carolyn have 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn grew up in Brigham City, Utah. She attended Box Elder High school where she was very socially active. She was on the prom committee, sang in the Glee Club, and had many friends.

Carolyn attended Weber College and graduated with an Associate degree. She started dating Warren after his return from the Army in June 1952. Carolyn started at BYU intending to get an Elementary Education degree, but only completed one semester because her sweetheart proposed, and they decided to get married.

After the wedding, on August 24, 1953, they lived in the University of Utah married student housing complex known as “Stadium Village.” After Warren graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1956, they bought a home in Val Verda, Utah which, at the time, was an unincorporated area between Bountiful and the city of North Salt Lake. They raised their five children in that home which was, and still is, in the Val Verda Third Ward of the LDS church.

Carolyn was very active in many different callings in the LDS Church. She was a music leader in the Primary, a leader in the Young Women’s program (Beehives), a leader for what was then called the Guide Patrol (11-year-old pre-Boy Scouts), president of her ward Relief Society, and secretary to the stake Relief Society. In addition, she served as a guide in the historic Beehive House in Salt Lake City.

Carolyn also contributed to the wider community. She volunteered as a “Pink Lady” in the hospital, served as a voting judge in her precinct, was a volunteer usher at the Utah Symphony, and helped students practice reading at South Davis Junior High.

With her friends, Carolyn was an active participant in book club and performed publicly in a singing group known as “The NoteWorthies.”

Carolyn was a kind, understanding, and supportive mother. She helped and encouraged her children in identifying and developing their talents: whether in school, music, art, sports, cooking, sewing, theatre, or dance.

Carolyn was a fun grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply and always had a hug (and cookies!) ready for them. She loved seeing and talking to everyone during holidays and other special family occasions.

Carolyn will be remembered for her laugh, her baking, her singing, and her genuine friendliness to everyone. But most of all she will be remembered for the unconditional love she showed to each and every member of her large extended family.
