Carolyn Young Hunsaker

February 29, 1940 — September 7, 2021

Carolyn Young Hunsaker, 81, cherished sister, mother and grandmother passed away September 7, 2021 from complications due to Covid-19.
Born February 29, 1940, in Washington, D.C., she was the eldest of nine children of Sherman and Henrietta Hatch Young. She was a graduate of Olympus High School and attended the University of Utah. She married Duane Cook Hunsaker April 14, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they shared 36 years of marriage before his death in 1997. They were residents of Bountiful, Utah, moving there in 1963.
She was active all her life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She served faithfully in numerous ward and stake callings as well as the YWMIA General Board. We are grateful for her legacy of faith.
Carolyn was a pianist, musician, and beautiful quiltmaker having had her work exhibited on many occasions. After 30 years as a stay-at-home mother to her children, she spent the next 17 years as transcriptionist for seven pediatric surgeons at Primary Children’s Hospital. She loved her work and was an extraordinary secretary.
Carolyn was an avid genealogist. She pursued her family genealogical lines and edited many life histories of her ancestors and inspired the writing of family histories among relatives, friends and community. She loved good music, good manners, proper introductions, spring flowers, good books, and her own family history as kept in her photos, journals, and scrapbooks. Most of all, she loved to be surrounded by her family at the Sunday dinner table or on holidays or family vacations together.
Preceded in death by her parents, and husband, she is survived by five children: Mark (Valerie Jane Nielsen), Shauna Francom, Derek, Julie (Cory) Ottley, and Jennie (Ryan) Isom; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom were dearly loved. Two brothers and six sisters also survive: Sharon (Hugh) Yancey, David (Shauna) Young, Mary (Thomas) Eggertsen, Kathryn (Michael) Hayes, Martha (Mark) Moench, Robert Young , Susan (Steven) Stott, and Linda (Kenneth) Nielsen.
Her children wish to especially thank their brother Derek, and her brother Robert who have lived with her and been a source of strength and support for many years. She loved their companionship.
Despite caution during the pandemic and being first in line to be vaccinated, she was one of the unfortunate few vulnerable breakthrough cases. Our heartfelt gratitude to the extremely taxed medical staff at St. Mark’s Hospital. We feel blessed she was able to live a full and healthy life right up until her illness.
Services will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 11th, 2021 at the Oak Hills Ward, 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held before the funeral service from 9:30-10:40am. Due to Covid concerns, anyone more comfortable may watch the funeral service being streamed live at https://youtu.be/PjpyU03-u1Q, and we ask that anyone who wishes to attend in person please wear a mask.
Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Bountiful with care provided by Russon Bountiful Mortuary.
