Carolyn Sue Cooksey (aka “CC”), born March 26, 1942, in Louisa, Lawrence County, KY passed away on February 29, 2016 at Spring Creek Care Center in Salt Lake City of natural causes.
She was the only child of Viola Belle Jordan and Roland Cooksey and her grandparents were Camillus Jay and Leva Belle Vanover Jordan and Ulysses S. Grant and Patsy Combs Cooksey, all of Lawrence County, KY.
After attending various schools in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio, “CC” graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in Dayton, OH in 1959 as the youngest member of her graduating class.
Soon after High School graduation, “CC” began a career in office work that ultimately lasted 49 years. She began at the Scott Companies in Dayton, OH, and her subsequent success there earned her a promotion and transfer to Scott Equipment Handling in Columbus, OH.
Members of the Scott family introduced “CC” to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in the Fall of 1970 she joined the Church in Dayton, OH.
Eventually her LDS Church affiliation and some new friendships enticed “CC” to move to Utah where she worked for a time at Balkamp Inc in West Jordan, UT and at Bingham Engineering at the International Center before devoting the last 29 years of her career to the law firm of Nygaard, Coke & Vincent in Salt Lake City, UT.
“CC” loved dogs and cats and people. She was always most generous with her time and talents in crocheting beautiful afghans and other works of love for those around her. She loved to read and excelled at putting puzzles together.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents. She had no family members in the Western United States, but in her later years was lovingly watched over by many selfless members of her ward and her neighborhood.
A Memorial Service for “CC” will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 11 AM at the LDS chapel at 3400 S. 1100 E., Salt Lake City, UT.
