Carter Nish Zundel

May 7, 1933 — March 22, 2015

Carter Nish Zundel (Nish), 81, died March 22, 2015 after a short but courageous and dignified struggle with cancer. He is survived by his six children: Michael Nish (LuAnn), Steven Greg (Lynne), Roger Brian (Pamela), Kathy Leigh Lowe (Roger), James Matthew (Kirsten) and Ryan Dustin (Kylee), 25 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dorene June White Zundel (Doe), on August 14, 2014.
Nish was born the third of seven children on a dairy farm in Fielding Utah on May 7, 1933 to Rosel and Celia Nish Zundel. He grew up milking cows every morning and learned he could accomplish almost anything through persistence and hard work. Throughout life his work day started well before dawn. He married his high school sweetheart, (Doe), on October 8, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. He was devoted to her throughout their life together.
Nish joined the Air Force in 1952 and became a jet fighter pilot at the age of 20 on April 14, 1954; the youngest pilot in the Air Force at the time he got his wings.  After leaving active duty he  earned an industrial engineering degree at Utah State University.  He tried his hand at selling insurance, gold mining, real estate development, international aircraft leasing, jet fuel brokering and at the time of his passing was chairman of the board of Signature Products Group (SPG), a branding and import manufacturing company. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Country Club where he had many friends.
Nish loved life and its challenges. He dispensed many short bits of humor and wisdom in almost any setting, be it at the office, on the golf course, in a priesthood meeting, around a campfire or when counseling with his children and grandchildren. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and they love him. Nish said his greatest accomplishment was his family.  He was especially soft hearted for his only daughter, Kathy, who returned his love at the end of his life by almost never leaving his side, cheering him on and caring for his every comfort and wish during his final days.
Services will be held on Saturday March 28 at 11:30 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 200 South Eagle Ridge Drive, North Salt Lake, where there will be a viewing prior to the service Friday evening March 27 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and from 10:00-11:00 Saturday morning at that location.
