True to her private nature, this modest obituary was written by Charlene and leaves many achievements unsung. Born August 26,1933 in Pocatello, Idaho, Charlene Baker Banner died of pancreatic cancer on August 2, 2011. She was the daughter of Violet Marie Hasty and Morris Evan Baker and always expressed gratitude for growing up in the small-town atmosphere of Burley, Idaho, where she had many opportunities to flourish and grow. She graduated from Burley High School where she participated in speech, drama, journalism and leadership. She attended BYU. In 1953 she married Melvin Banner in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have been married 58 years. During their marriage they lived in Idaho, Utah, Washington, Virginia, Kentucky, American Samoa and Ontario, Canada. They have recently resided in North Salt Lake, Utah. Charlene served in varied positions in the LDS Church – serving old and young. She and her husband recently served as nursery leaders while in their 70’s. She also loved serving her sisters in the Relief Society. She especially enjoyed being den leader, cub master and cub committee chairman. Charlene and Mel served missions in Ontario, Canada, and Salt Lake City Church History. Charlene is the mother of six children, grandmother of 21, and great-grandmother of 26. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; and their six children Kent (Dot) Banner, Blackfoot, Idaho; Craig (Diana) Banner, Mesa, Arizona; Darece (Rick) Sperry, Kaysville, Ut; Lisa (Kim), Seattle, Washington; David (Melissa) Banner, West Jordan; and Darin Banner, Oregon City, Oregon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Foxhill Ward Chapel, 200 So. Eagle Ridge Road, No. Salt Lake, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Saturday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
