Charlene Seeley

October 1, 1933 — November 21, 2018

Charlene Seeley, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, in Bountiful, Utah, at the age of 85 from natural causes and complications from dementia.

Charlene was born October 1, 1933, at home in Gunnison, Utah. She was the ninth child of eleven born to Louis Christian & Dagmar Mortensen Munk.

She grew up in Gunnison and graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1951. While in high school she performed in many plays, served in school government, and was the school reporter.

Charlene married Joseph Henry Nelson, Jr. of Salt Lake City on October 8, 1951. They had four daughters – Dorrie, Marcie, Juliann & Cathryn and lived in Richfield for most of their married lives. Joseph passed away on April 21, 1969, in an automobile accident. On July 25, 1970, Charlene married Hal Carlton Seeley of Mount Pleasant in Manti, Utah, and became step-mother to Philip, Pam, Michael & K.C. They had two children together, Cade & Dane. They lived in Richfield and Kaysville for their married lives. They divorced in 2011. Hal passed away on October 27, 2012.

Charlene loved her family and enjoyed nothing more than having her home filled with them. She was a nurturer to all and could always be found holding the babies or interacting with the many children that surrounded her. Blessed with an excellent memory, she often reminisced about growing up in Sanpete County. Her affinity for music was best displayed while singing and performing in many musical groups. She instilled that love of music in her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and history was her favorite subject. Always proud of her Pioneer heritage, she was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Traveling with her family across the United States and Europe were some of her most cherished memories. As her daughters grew up, she used her talent for sewing and made most of the clothing they wore. One of her favorite hobbies was playing cards with her Bridge Club.

Charlene was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout her life.

She is survived by sisters Betty Barton, Ephraim; Luella Jorgenson, Redmond, and brother Donald Munk (Nola), Richfield; sister-in-law Myrtle Munk, Roy; brothers-in-law Morris Lunt, Nephi, and Roger Nelson, Salt Lake City; children Dorrie Merten (Jeff), Cypress, TX; Marcie Nelson, Sandy; Juliann Andreen, Colorado Springs, CO; Cathryn Nelson, Bluffdale; Cade (Stacy), Kaysville; Dane (Lorena), Mesa, AZ; Philip (Kristine), Jefferson City, MO; Pam (Paul) Smith, Alpharetta, GA; Michael (June), Salt Lake City and K.C.
