Charles (Chuck) Frederick Galloway

Charles (Chuck) Frederick Galloway, 93, passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2018.  He was born November 18, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George Curtis Galloway and Sarah Ann Maples Galloway.  He married Lorraine Lombardi on November 10, 1945.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 10, 1955.  He is survived by his four children: Craig Galloway (Selma), Kent Galloway (Cherrill), Diane Bingham (Robert), Judy Mason (Victor), 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers, Richard, Paul and Henry, and son-in-law, Steve.
    Attended West High School where he was active in sports.  He played quarterback on football team, guard on the basketball team, catcher on the baseball team and ran the hurdles on the track team.  Chuck worked for Restaurant and Store Equipment for almost 50 years.  While at Restaurant and Store, he helped design the layout for many restaurants and food establishments.  Many great friendships and working relationships were formed during the Restaurant and Store years.  
For over 40 years he worked part-time for Guest Services at the University of Utah, Salt Palace, Delta Center (now Vivant Arena) and United Concerts.  He worked for events that included the Utah Stars, Utah Jazz, University of Utah football and basketball, hundreds of concerts and conventions.
Chuck was not able to serve in the military but was able to work as a civilian volunteer at Fort Douglas during World War 2.  He drove jeeps for the officers serving at Fort Douglas.  Because he lived one half block north of the State Fairgrounds, he talked about sneeking into the State Fair each year.
His big hobby was photography.  He took photos by the thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands.  He would get everybody to pose in just the right position for the photo and then say, “Act natural.”  Chuck just loved to get in his car and drive to the mountains or farm land to find just the right shot in just the right light.  He always wanted to find the perfect shot.
One of the things that he loved doing over the years was coaching young men in basketball and softball.  He spent whatever time was needed at practice and games to help the young men improve their skills in each sport.  But what was more important to him than that, was that the young men developed good life skills that would make them better men.  Chuck supported his sons and daughters in their athletic endeavors and any other activities in which they participated.  He attended as many of their games and events as he could.
Chuck always made sure that the family took a vacation together each summer.  Most years this meant that the family went to McCall, Idaho, for a week.  They stayed in little cabins on the south shore of Payette Lake.  At first it was the Hayes, Mays and Galloways.  Then many other families from the Bountiful 14th Ward started coming.  Many wonderful memories were made in McCall, Idaho, during those family trips.
The family would like to thank Chancellor Gardens in Layton, Utah, for their tender care for Chuck for three years.  The family would also like to thank Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Chuck for the last few months.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Bountiful 14th Ward Chapel at 11:00 am, 1500 South 600 East, Bountiful, Utah.  Viewings will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, and prior to services from 9:45 am – 10:45 am at the Bountiful 14th Ward Chapel.  Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
