Charles Garth Peterson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died Sunday afternoon, September 26, 2010 at the age of 88 due to complications incident to age. He was born on June 28, 1922 in Mount Emmons, Duchesne County, Utah. He is the son of Charles Leo Peterson and Marjorie Luella (Hansen) Peterson. He was the third of five brothers and one sister. Garth spent his early years going to school in the Salt Lake valley, but spent summers at his maternal grandparents farm near Altamont, Utah. At the age of six he was a marbles champion in Salt Lake City. When World War II came he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was trained to repair radar and communications equipment on Navy bombers. After World War II he attended Utah State University where he graduated in electrical engineering with a minor in physics. He married Geraldine Johnson of Salt Lake City in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on February 1, 1951. Garth subsequently went to work for the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and later worked briefly in Holloman AFB in Alamogordo New Mexico. In 1954 he accepted a job with the U.S. Army at Dugway Proving Grounds and later retired as Director of its Engineering Division. Garth always enjoyed carpentry and building houses, a trade he learned from his father. Following his retirement from government service, he built several homes in the Val Verda area. Since then he spent time traveling the world and enjoying his family. He will be missed by family and friends who love him. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; his children Charles Edward (Sue), John Lars (Carol), James Christian (Patty), and Maren Crowton (Gary); thirteen grandchildren and two and a half great-grandchildren; his brothers Richard (Lucy), Donald (Carol) and Gary (Kathy). He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert and sister Marjorie. Family and friends may call between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main. Bountiful, Utah. Family and friends may also call between 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2010 at the North Canyon 2nd Ward building, 3350 South 100 East, Bountiful, Utah; funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m.
