Cheryl Ann Schow was born on February 2, 1945, to Elden Carlos and Alceodene Hofer Schow. On July 14, 2019 she passed away peacefully following the return of breast cancer at the Creekside Senior Living Center, Bountiful, Utah.
Cheryl grew up in Bountiful. She graduated from Bountiful High School in 1963, then headed to Provo, Utah to attend BYU. She graduated with honors from BYU in 1967 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In 1983 she received her Masters of Education from the University of Utah.
She worked in the Jordan School District as an elementary school teacher, and as the Media Supervisor. She retired in 1984.
Cheryl was bright, creative, and full of life. She loved to travel, do family history, and read books. Cheryl was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and participated in book and game clubs. She loved playing games with her grandchildren. She had many friends and she cherished her relationships with them.
Cheryl married the love of her life, Norman Paul Ensign, on June 12, 1986 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. When Cheryl married Norm, she was blessed with five children and their spouses. Christine and Robert Jenson, Charlene and Paul Moore, Paul and Tamra Ensign, Rebecca and Steven Brown and Brent and Christy Ensign. She was also blessed with 27 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Cheryl now had the family she had always wanted. She loved her new family. Her grandchildren were the center of her world.
Cheryl was a lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served two missions: Auckland, New Zealand in 1989 with her husband Norman; Cleveland, Ohio in 2007 as a single sister missionary after Norman passed away.
Cheryl is survived by her above-mentioned children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters; Barbara (Garry) Earl, JeNeal (Henry) Call, Carol (Brent) Frazier, Lynne (Mark) Rasmussen, Richard (Cherie) Cawley, Nadene Godfrey, Ray and (Lori) Cawley and Paul (Leanne) Schow and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elden and Aleocedene, her stepmother Ann Cawley Schow, her husband Norman Paul Ensign, her sister Nyla Tolman, a brother-in-law Craig Godfrey, and a great-nephew Cody Miller.
The family expresses gratitude for her hospice nurses, the staff at Creekside, and to the many family and friends who helped care for Cheryl and/or visited her during her illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Val Verda 5th Ward Chapel, 2633 South 50 West, Bountiful, Utah. A visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Lakeview Memorial Estates.
Although we will miss Cheryl, we should not feel sorrow for her death, but instead feel grateful that her presence has blessed our lives.
