Our dear brother, uncle and friend, Chris Ratcliffe, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2019. He was born August 5, 1961, to John C. and Carol Lundgren Ratcliffe. Chris was a Bountiful boy through and through. He kept a special place in his heart for his hometown throughout his life and was grateful to have been raised in such a beautiful place. Chris earned his Eagle Scout Award and always had a deep love and respect for his country. He was a devoted employee at Colonial Lumber and he felt everyone who worked there was family to him. His trailer park community was very dear to his heart and he cherished the friendships he made there.
Chris delighted in celebrating holidays. He absolutely loved fireworks and he knew where to get the best ones. He couldn't wait to set off his impressive array of sparks, pops and booms to the delight of his family and friends. He loved being an uncle and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He always asked about them and showed a continual interest in their lives as they married and had their own children.
Chris was an amazing drummer. He played drums in the Bountiful High School Band and could often be heard drumming along with the rock music he enjoyed so much. His expertise as a drummer and his love of playing the drums had a great influence on his nephew, Adam, who follows in his footsteps as a very accomplished drummer.
Chris had a wonderful sense of humor. One of his favorite antics was an obsession with Jackalopes. He had assorted Jackalopes in all shapes and sizes throughout his house. He would often entertain family and friends with his heartfelt invitation to "Believe in the Jackalope!" He could have us all laughing within minutes of his arrival. The laughter we shared brought us all closer together and we are grateful for such wonderful memories.
Chris was a loyal Ute fan and when it came to the NFL, he was devoted to the Minnesota Vikings. He was thrilled when he was able to take a trip with his buddy, Brad Steed, to see them play. Brad was a dear friend to Chris and they shared many memorable adventures over the years.
Chris was always up for a trip to Lake Powell with friends. He enjoyed boating and really knew how to handle a pair of water skis. He never missed an opportunity to go to Bear Lake and always returned home with a supply of lottery tickets in his pocket, often picking up a few to share with his family or friends. Chris had a kind, generous heart. He put a great deal of thought into selecting gifts for other people. He had a wonderful knack for picking just the right present whether it brought a tear to the eye or a round of laughter. Chris was a gentle soul who deeply loved his family and friends. We are all saddened by his passing and will dearly miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Blitz, who has been anxiously anticipating Chris's arrival at Heaven's gate. He is survived by three siblings, Sally (Stan) Bouck, Tina (Howard) Graham, and Will (Amelda) Ratcliffe. Also survived by nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved friends.
Family and friends may share memories of Chris at a celebration of life to be held in his honor on Saturday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS church located at 690 N. 400 W. in Centerville.
