Christopher Barker

September 4, 1959 — June 5, 2012

Biography

Holding his wife’s hand, Chris quietly slipped away into eternity on June 5, 2012. He was born September 4, 1959 to Robert Earle and Ann Snell Barker in Houston, Texas. Chris’s growing up years were spent in Houston, Anchorage Alaska and Dallas Texas. Following high school, Chris spent 4 years in the United States Navy where he learned the skills to calibrate electronic equipment. This training secured him a job with Stabro Laboratories in Salt Lake City, Utah where he was employed for 25 years. Chris loved computers and was a self taught computer programmer. Because of this love and fascination with computers, mid career he changed directions and secured a job with Newera Software, which is now Audatex, where Chris was employed until the time of his death.
Chris was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully and cheerfully in all his callings.
In March of 2004, Chris married his long time best friend, Esther Nielsen in Laie Hawaii. Together they shared 3 children, Leesa Mary Hale, Jared Garth (Michelle) Nielsen, and Crystal Skye (Ray Layvo) Barker, all of who survive him. He is also survived by his father; brother, Michael Nelson Barker; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, and both sets of grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Barton Creek LDS Chapel, 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing in his honor will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Burial will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery under the direction of Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Michelle Nielsen, Jamie Jones, Dean Starmer and others from the Caregiver Support Network for their kind, loving and suportive care during Chris’s final months.
