Christopher Lloyd Randall died on March 30 at home in North Salt Lake at the age of 59. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in June of 2023. He was a devoted husband to Amy, his wife of 36 years, and a loving father to their six children—Scott (Rachel), Matthew (Emily), Allison (Benjamin), Haley (Luke), Morgan, and Brian. He cherished his role as a grandfather to six grandchildren and as a beloved son to his parents, Lloyd and Mary. Chris is survived by eight of his siblings and is reunited in death with his brother, Joshua.
Born in Portland, Oregon, on March 15, 1966, Chris grew up in a lively home as the eldest of ten children. He developed a love for sports, a strong work ethic, and a deep commitment to faith from an early age. After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Anaheim, California, he married Amy Castleton in 1989. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, a master’s degree from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. from BYU.
Though Chris spent some time in the corporate world (including Welch Allyn, Arthur Anderson, and PwC), he was dedicated to serving in the Church, where he worked at the Missionary Training Center, the Missionary Department, and in the Office of the First Presidency. He also served in many leadership callings, including bishop, stake president, and mission president of the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission from 2016 to 2018. No matter where he was, he had a rare ability to listen deeply and truly see others—whether with a stranger or a lifelong friend, he had a way of making people feel valued, important, and understood.
Chris had a remarkable depth of knowledge on just about everything, from cars to sports to Church doctrine. He was the person you’d call when you needed advice, a book recommendation, or the answer to an obscure question. His love of running, which began in middle school, lasted a lifetime—he ran the St. George Marathon more than ten times and inspired five of his six children to run cross country. He was also a lifelong learner and an avid reader, particularly drawn to biographies and historical accounts.Chris’s life was one of quiet wisdom, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family and community. He will be profoundly missed.
