Cindy Ann Lyman passed away on January 27, 2018 in Bountiful.
Cindy was born March 9, 1957 in Anchorage, Alaska to Stan and LouAnn (Ostler) Lyman where her father Stan was stationed in the USAF at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. Cindy was the firstborn of Stan and LouAnn. She was born with Spina Bifida and was not expected to live more than approximately 9 years. She defied those odds by far.
Cindy has lived in Alaska, Washington and Utah. She traveled with her parents on the ALCAN Highway at age 4 months. The long journey to Kaysville, UT was 3,333 miles with over 1,800 miles of gravel road. It was a rough ride for a 4 month old baby!
Though Cindy was confined to a wheelchair her entire life, she never let that stop her from doing some of the things she wanted to do. Cindy attended school at Kaysville Elementary until 3rd grade. From there she was home schooled by the school district through Kaysville Jr. High and Davis High School, graduating with her class in 1975. She was also a Seminary graduate.
Cindy attended LDS Business College graduating with a 2 year certificate in bookkeeping.
Cindy worked at various jobs including the IRS, Easter Seals and Oakridge Country Club before landing a favorite job at JC Penney in Centerville as a customer service specialist. Cindy loved her job at “Penney’s” and spent 15 years working there. She made many friends and received awards for her excellent work.
Cindy has always enjoyed going to church since she was a child and that love of going to church continued through her adult life. She served as the secretary to Sunday School, Primary and also served as a gospel doctrine and gospel essentials instructor. She also faithfully served as a visiting teaching coordinator and visiting teacher.
Cindy loved to watch Figure Skating on television. She watched many competitions and Olympic events, she even taped many of them so she could re-watch them anytime. She also had a great love for music including classical, popular music and music from many Broadway shows.
As a young girl, Cindy learned to crochet and knit left-handed. It was hard for her! She learned this skill well enough that she could teach others, even though they were right handed. Her crochet and knitting projects included skirts, scarves, afghans and hundreds of pot holders.
About 12 years ago, Cindy decided she would like to try living independently. She did some research and found the Rose Cove apartments in Farmington. She adored her little apartment and all of her special friends she made there. She hated to leave but knew she could not live alone any longer. Cindy left a great impression on her many dear friends from Rose Cove. She loved them, and they loved her.
Cindy had a special relationship with both sets of her grandparents, especially her grandmothers: “Granny” Ostler and Grandma Dot Lyman. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is enjoying a joyous reunion with them.
Cindy is survived by her loving parents, Stan and LouAnn Lyman; sisters, Suzanne Kennard and Kathy Sprague (Kyle); brother, Kent Lyman (Chantell); 7 nieces, 2 nephews and their spouses; 12 grand nieces and nephews; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
