Clarence Henry Bemis, Jr.

Clarence passed away peacefully on May 16, 2018 at the age of 87.  He was born to Clarence Sr. and Ila Bemis of San Bernardino, CA. He grew up on an orange grove that was many generations old, surrounded by his Bemis relatives. He met and fell in love his wife, Arlene Ada McCauley, in the San Bernardino area, and they married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on Feb 12, 1953. The couple started their family in Southern California before settling in Bountiful UT in 1964.  Clarence and Arlene were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite church calling was, "Gospel Doctrine Teacher."

Clarence was a man of many abilities. He was a true pioneer of early electronics, having studied electronical engineering at San Bernardino Valley College, starting his career in TV repair, and working in the electronics field for many years. He taught himself how to read schematics for repairing small aircraft radios, as well as anything else that needed fixed. He later owned and operated an Avionics shop in the Salt Lake Valley. He was considered by many an electronical and mechanical genius.

Clarence loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could camping, fishing, boating, hunting, snow skiing, water skiing, and flying, and was a small aircraft pilot. He built by hand two 20 to 25-foot wooden boats in which he and Arlene enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and fishing and sightseeing on the ocean. Later he built airboats and enjoyed duck and goose hunting in them.  He was the president of the Utah Airboat Association for many years. He loved being out on the water, first at the ocean, then Lake Havasu, and later at Lake Powell. Of course, he took his whole family along on fun excursions, and sometimes friends too. Those were good times and he was the life of the family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence Henry Bemis Sr., Ila Marjorie Anderson Bemis, his beloved wife Arlene Ada McCauley Bemis, his son Gerald Lyle Bemis, his brother Ronald Bemis, and his sister Marjorie Bemis Brayton.

He is survived by daughters Kathie Wilson, Colleen (Terry) Eggett, Janell (Sean) Leary, and Mary Bemis; thirteen grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren.

Clarence's funeral services will be at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main St. Bountiful, UT, on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11 a.m.  Friends may call at the mortuary from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Clarence will be interred at the Bountiful City Cemetery where he will rest next to his wife Arlene, and son, Jerry.
