Clarence "Wayne" Meredith

June 8, 1930 — February 20, 2016

Wayne Meredith, a kind and gentle soul, passed away on February 20th due to complications arising from Pneumonia.  Wayne was born in Parco (Sinclair), Wyoming and is the only son of Arthur Jay and Jessie DeHaan Meredith.  While he spent his adult life outside of Wyoming, the adage holds true, you can take the man out of Wyoming but you cannot take Wyoming out of the man. An avid outdoorsman, Wayne enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting throughout his life.

He attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering.  He served his county in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Korea shortly after the Armistice of 1953.  He was honorably discharged in November 1955 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He worked as a civil engineer in Salt Lake City, UT, Baton Rouge, LA, Chicago, IL, and San Francisco, CA.  He was a resident of Bountiful, UT for 44 years.

Wayne married Mary Ellen Duncan on December 6, 1957 and enjoyed a loving marriage for over 58 years. They have three children, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren with two on the way.  He greatly enjoyed his family and was a very active and loving father, grandpa and grandpa-great.

He converted to the LDS religion in 1967 and remained a faithful member throughout his life.  He enjoyed all of his opportunities to serve and was always available to work no matter the time or circumstance. He particularly enjoyed his service at the Bountiful Temple as an Ordinance Worker.

In his retirement he was a much admired substitute teacher for Davis County junior high schools and relished his time in the classroom up until the time he entered the hospital.

He enjoyed an active and full life, and was available to solve any problem. Wayne will be missed by those he loved and served.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elnora Theresa Davis.  He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, daughter Nora Lynn (Edward) Bonner, and sons David Wayne (Tracey) and Douglas Duncan (Julia).  The family thanks the medical staff at Lakeview Hospital for their attentive care and support during Wayne's last three weeks.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Feb. 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful Hills Ward (1190 Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful). A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday Feb. 26 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, and prior to the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Wayne's memory to the Moran Eye Center, Development Office, 65 Mario Capecchi Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84132, (801) 585-9700.
