Loving husband, father, grandfather, Claude Leland Mills (86) passed away peacefully surrounded by his eternal companion, Joyce, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on February 22, 2017. He was born in Ogden Utah, on June 21, 1930 to Lodasca Williams and Claude Bartlett Mills. He spent his early years in Bittercreek, WY and Echo UT. Claude loved football and played for Ogden High and Weber College. He finished his education at the University of Utah with a degree in Accounting.
He married Joyce Syme, the love of his life, on April 26, 1951, in Ogden UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.
Claude served in the Air Force which allowed them to live in Texas and England.
Claude and Joyce raised their family in Bountiful, UT while Claude worked for Mountain Fuel/ Questar Gas as a Systems Analyst.
He enjoyed being active running, biking and skiing. His favorite pastime was coaching Little League Football where he coached all of his sons. He continued coaching years later, enlisting his sons to be assistant coaches. He loved watching football especially when his son, Matt, was officiating in the games.
He had a number of health challenges for the majority of his life, including Multiple Sclerosis, but he didn’t let that stop him from living life to the fullest. His positive attitude and optimism were contagious. He valiantly endured to the end, and uplifted all in his association.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission with his sweetheart, Joyce, to the Florida Tallahassee Mission from 1993-1994. Shortly after their mission, they moved to Kaysville, UT.
He loved family vacations, family parties, and monthly Family Dinners. He never missed an opportunity to express gratitude and love to family and friends. He gave compliments freely. He was a great example of a faithful priesthood holder. He had a strong testimony that he shared frequently and lived his testimony by word and deed. He had a great love for Family History work and spent many hours writing and collecting family histories.
The family expresses gratitude for the kind and tender care received from Aspire Home, Health and Hospice.
He is survived by his sweetheart Joyce, brothers Ed Mills, Dave Stouffer and Clifford Stouffer, children Linda (Gary) Goodman, Michael (Deidre) Mills, David (Teri) Mills, Marilyn (Ruth) Mills, Brian (Kathy) Mills, Matthew (Jodi) Mills, Lisa (Scott) Wood, Michelle (Matthew) Crawford 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Orchard Chapel, 1282 W 1875 N Farmington. A viewing for family and friends will be held Sunday, February 26 from 6-8pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N Main Farmington, and Monday morning 9:30-10:30am at the church prior to services. Interment-Kaysville City Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
