Clifford J Lawrence, 91, of Bountiful, Utah passed away quietly at home during the early morning hours of October 21, 2015 with family by his side.
Cliff was born April 7, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank Saville Lawrence & Eliza Steedman Lawrence, their second of three sons.
Cliff graduated from Granite High School in 1942. Shortly after graduation, he and his two best friends joined the US Army Air Corps to serve in the World War II conflict. Lieutenant Lawrence was assigned to the Pacific Theater where he completed 40 combat missions as a pilot of the A-20 Havoc and B-25 Mitchell.
Cliff was again called to active duty for the Korean War. He continued to serve the United States Air Force as a Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and Utah National Guard. Colonel Lawrence was the United States Air Force Academy Liaison Officer Coordinator (LOC) for the state of Utah for many years. He received numerous awards throughout his military service, including the 1976 Outstanding LOC for the entire nation. He retired as the Chief Budget Officer and Comptroller at Hill Air Force Base in 1980. Following his retirement from the military, he received his real estate license and worked in that field for several years.
Cliff received his bachelor's degree in business marketing from the University of Utah; he also graduated from the Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama.
Cliff married Carole Jane Edwards, June 11, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple, and later divorced. They are the parents of two sons: Steven Marc (Maurene) and Gary Alan (Marsha).
Cliff married Carole May Stephenson, August 19, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children: Susan Jan Haug (Peter), Kenneth Scott (Sherie), Richard J (Mary), Stanley Gene, Kelly Paul (Robin), and Matthew S (Emily).
Cliff served in many different callings in the LDS Church and lived a life of faith and testimony, for which his posterity will forever be grateful. He thoroughly enjoyed doing family history research, woodworking, and gardening. Cliff loved spending time at the family summer home in Christmas Meadows, Utah. Above all, he loved every opportunity he had to be with his children and grandchildren.
As Cliff looked back on his life, he continually expressed his gratitude for the many opportunities and experiences he was able to have. He often remarked, "I've had a great life".
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Douglas and Melvin. He is survived by his wife, eight children, twenty-five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at the Bountiful 31st Ward LDS Chapel, 585 East Center Street, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Bountiful 31st Ward LDS Chapel, 585 East Center Street, Bountiful, Utah and on Saturday between 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful.
