CLIFFORD H. NEWMAN ?Beloved Father?

Clifford Holland Newman returned to our Father in Heaven and his beloved wife, Dot, on Sunday, September 3, 2006. Cliff was born on September 6, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Stephen Burton and Frances Ophelia Newman. He married Dorothy Wheat on April 26, 1940. Their marriage was solemnized a short time later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent a short time in Denver, Colorado and returned to Salt Lake to be near their families. Dot returned to Heavenly Father on July 22, 2002 after a long illness. Cliff provided loving care for her throughout her illness.

Cliff graduated from West High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. He retired from the Mountain Bell Yellow Pages and spent his retirement serving others.

They were the parents of Brenda Art Jordan, Stephen Colleen Newman, Mary Ann, Margaret Garner, Spence Jo Ann Newman. They were caring parents and grandparents and found great joy in their family.

Cliff is survived by his sons, Steve and Spence; daughter, Margaret and daughter-in-law Colleen. He is also survived by grandchildren: Diane Jordan-Tucker, Dale Lori Jordan, Neal Newman, Kimm Kurt Lainhart, Scott Kellie Newman, Rebecca Newman, C.D. Newman, Pamela Newman, 11 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Ralph Gardner and many nieces and nephews he dearly loved.

He was predeceased by his parents, wife Dorothy, daughters Brenda and Mary Ann, son-in-law Art, daughter-in-law Jo Ann, granddaughter Tara, grandson Nicholas. He was also predeceased by his brother Willard; sisters Naomi Graves, Mary Hall and their spouses Howard Graves, Tom Hall; his sister-in-law Bernice Gardner; sister-in-law Marjorie Wheat and her husband Doug; his brother-in-law Ted Wheat, his wife Margaret and their 3 children. Cliff was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many ward and stake callings. His favorite was serving in the Salt Lake Temple with his eternal companion.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Holladay Twenty-sixth Ward, 4601 S. Chapel Street 2565 E. A viewing will be held from 11:45 to 12:45, prior to the service.
