Biography

Clifton Call Clark passed away quietly Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Salt Lake City at the age of 94. He was born August 13, 1918 in Bountiful, Utah. Cliff was the fourth of thirteen children born to Nathan George Clark and Cleo Afton Call. Cliff attended public schools in Davis County, graduating from Davis High School in 1936. He learned the value of work from an early age and always helped to contribute to the needs and welfare of his family. Cliff worked for several farmers in his youth and was always a good, dependable worker. After high school he earned a living buying and selling fresh fruits and vegetables-first locally and then, with the purchase of a truck, he increased his reach. In 1939, he began working for A&Z Produce Company, a new, local wholesale distribution concern. After a short time, he was offered a partnership in the business. It was while in this early partnership that he met the love of his life, Margaret Emma Davies. They married in 1941 (later sealed in an L.D.S. temple) and eventually became the parents of four children. Their early union was disrupted by World War II. Cliff proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After the war, Cliff returned to A&Z Produce Company helping it to become the largest independent produce wholesaler in the Intermountain West. His former partners eventually departed and in 1971, his sons became his new partners in the business. This family concern is now in its third generation. Cliff was a great businessman, working until his 90th birthday before retiring. He always taught by example his strong work ethic stressing the importance of doing a job well, right from the beginning. Cliff was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many leadership positions. Cliff loved history–learning about real people, places and events. He and Margaret were fortunate to visit most of the U.S.A. and travel abroad to many places in the world.
Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, four brothers (Ezra, Freeman, Rodney and Alton); three sisters (Athelia, Marial and Marr); daughter Marji , a grandson and two great grandchildren. He is survived by four sisters, Naomi (Perry), Cleo (Rampton), Clella (Jolley) and Afton (Bair); a brother, George; three sons, Jay Dee (Coleen), their children, Gregory (Carie), Taylor (Jannie), Ryan (Misty), Michael (Sicily), Natalie (Jacob), Jonathan (Cassidy) Jayson (Julianne) and Nathan (Paige); Steven (Dianne), their children, Taunya (Brad), Jeffrey (Susan), Nichole (Eric) and Danielle (Jason) and Scott (Annette), their children, Michelle (Niall), Spencer, Blake (Teako) Charlotte (John), Curtis, Gerrit, and Brennan (Rachael) and 44 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Bountiful South Stake Center, 1250 S Main Street, Bountiful. Visitors may meet with the family prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45pm. On Friday, February 15, a viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main Street, Bountiful.
