Colin Gardner

COLIN GARDNER, our dear father, grandfather, and husband passed peacefully away January 21, 2019, in Bountiful Utah.

Colin was born in Santa Ana, California, August 20, 1928 to Serenus (Rea) Gardner and Pansy May Yarrington Gardner.  He had a twin sister, Colleen, who died at birth.  He grew up with 9 other siblings on a farm in Gridley California.  He loved music, singing and dancing, and played clarinet and saxophone in a band.  He graduated from Oroville High School and soon after joined the Army. He served in Puerto Rico during the Korean War as a pharmacy technician.  After his service he went to Brigham Young University. There he met and married Anona Irene Orr. They were married in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada L.D.S. Temple.  This coming April they would have celebrated their 66th anniversary together.

After graduating from BYU in 1958, they moved to California to work as a Physicist at Vandenberg Air Force Base launching space testing missiles.  They raised 5 children while working for S.A.M.T.E,C. and retired after 30 years of service.  He and Anona served a Family History Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City.  They loved Utah and the many changing seasons so much that they sold their home in Santa Maria, California and bought one in Bountiful Utah where they have resided ever since.

As everyone knows, he loved to talk and was always cheerful to others.  Some of his hobbies included Family History, trying out new inventions, tinkering with repairs and woodworking, videotaping and sharing information, and mathematics, math and more math.In his 80's he picked up jogging, stationery biking and exercising.  He even accomplished a 5K race at Cherry Days in Ogden in 2015. He was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings.  His most recent service was to be at the Bountiful Temple every Tuesday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers. He is survived by his wife Anona, brothers Vere and Milo, and sister Faith, his children Lyneen (Toby) of Brookings, OR, Lorin (Renee) of North Ogden, UT, Brenda (Clark) of Hyde Park, UT, Duane (Teresa) of Santa Maria, CA, Patricia (Russ) of Lompoc, CA. Also 37 grandchildren and spouses, and 52 great-grandchildren and 2 spouses.  The 100th descendant is due to be born in April, this year.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We Love You Colin, and know you will be shining your light down on all of us!!!

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Bountiful 20th Ward, 102 East 1400 South, with a viewing from 9:00-10:30 am prior to services.
