Our Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Colleen Isabell Taylor Busenbark, passed away June 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Born June 25, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of four daughters born to Howard Vincent Taylor and Isabell Grace Brown. Married Blaine Thomas Busenbark, June 10, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. Resident of Bountiful since 1964.
Graduated at age 16 from West High School, Class of 1948. Served as a graduation speaker. Received B.S. and M.Ed degrees from University of Utah. Active in Debate speech and journalism. Winner of the University’s 1950 Founder’s Day Oratorise Contest. Member of Tau Kappa Alpha, honorary debate and Kappa Tau Alpha honoring journalism societies; also served as president of Mega Chapter of Lamba Delta Sigma. Met future husband, Blaine Busenbark at Beta/Omega “conjoint” in Lamba Delta Sigma. Also served as president of the Davis County PTA Council in 1969 - 1980. Taught first and second grades in the Davis County School District for 21 years. Loved teaching children to read. Developed many special relationships with students and their parents over the years. Taught at Stoker, Syracuse, South Bountiful and the last sixteen years at Burton Elementary. Elected to Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary teaching society.
Active member of the community, serving as director and second vice president of the Women’s State Legislative council; trustee for the Family Connection (Davis Family Support Center); Democratic chairman of Legislative District 19 (Bountiful); member of American Association of University Women since 1961, serving as president of three branches, Salt Lake, South Davis and Kaysville-Davis, who named her as their Distinguished Woman in 2007. Spousal member of NARFE-National Association of Retired and active Federal Employees, serving as their scholarship chairman. Avid University of Utah sports fan.
Active member of the Bountiful 25th Ward, serving in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society.
Colleen was very proud of her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments and the good lives they are leading. She loved to travel, work in politics, theater, work in her yard, and bake cookies for her grandchildren.
Survived by her children, Julie Elaine (Steven) Andersen, Bountiful; and Blair Thomas (Barbara), Redmond, WA; grandchildren: Natalie Andersen (Aaron), Rachel (Shane) Broadbent, Andrew Scott-Busenbark (Shelly), Megan Scott-Busenbark, Monroe, Michaela (Jon) and Hamilton Busenbark; great-grandchildren: Taylor Broadbent, Thomas Broadbent, Jackson Broadbent and Parker Pfieffer.
Preceded in death by parents, son Neil Blaine Busenbark and sisters Dorene Gogins and Diane Roe, and son, Gordon.
