In a quiet and dignified manner, Colleen Huggins Maloy finished her mortal test here upon the earth the evening of December 20th 2020.
Born in 1937 in Globe, AZ as the fourth of five daughters to John and Alta Huggins, Colleen graduated as salutatorian from Globe High School in 1956 and subsequently attended Brigham Young University where she met her dear husband, Elwood.
She was a life-long, vibrant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who unselfishly served others in numerous ways, but particularly through sharing with everyone her never-ending love of music. An eminent Davis County piano teacher, Colleen helped hundreds of students to love and appreciate beautiful music over a 52 year teaching career. An accomplished organist, Colleen was also a long-time member of the American Guild of Organists and was asked to serve as an organist in the Bountiful Temple; a calling she fulfilled for 23 years. Colleen also served as a ward choir director and accompanist for more than 50 years and thoroughly enjoyed helping ward members perform cantatas each Christmas and Easter season. She was a founding member of the West Bountiful Arts Council, which has organized free monthly musical concerts and artistic exhibitions for decades. Colleen also enjoyed accompanying other musicians and vocalists on the piano in individual performances and competitions, and did so in countless events. In 2013 her consistent service to others was recognized in her being chosen as West Bountiful’s Citizen of the Year.
Our mom was passionate about learning and had a down-to-earth sense of humor. She loved to garden, take walks in the neighborhood, play board games and work on puzzles by the fireplace while drinking a mug of hot chocolate. Above all, Mom was kind, authentic and honest.
Colleen was preceded in her passing by her parents, two sisters and her eternal husband and friend, Elwood, and 2 grandsons. She is survived by sisters Alta and Jackie, her seven children, Paul (Ann), Colette (Nick), Kenneth (Ramona), Dan (Liesl), Mike (Angela), Keith, Karen (Jamin), 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
We dearly miss our wonderful mother and friend but look steadfastly forward to a joyful, eternal reunion made possible only through the perfect love and Atoning sacrifice of our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. Until we meet again.
Our family wishes to extend a special thank you to South Davis Home Health & Hospice for their attentive care and support over these many months.
There will be a viewing from 6pm-8pm on Sunday, December 27, at Russon Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street.
