Colleen Parkin

May 20, 1956 — March 15, 2011

1956 – 2011 Colleen Venter Parkin passed away suddenly at home March 15, 2011. She was our sister, daughter, aunt and friend and will be very much missed. Colleen was born May 20, 1956 in Salt Lake City to Don Allred and Lena May Wallace Venter. Colleen spent her early years in the Rose Park area and had many friends. The family moved to West Bountiful when Colleen was 9. This was a great move for Colleen as she had her horses right there and could spend time with them every day. She attended and graduated from Viewmont High School in 1974. Colleen married her best friend, Steve Parkin on June 23, 1978. They were married for 22 years before he passed away in October 2000. Colleen worked for several years at Walmart in American Fork. Her most recent employment was Lowes in American Fork. Colleen loved animals, but her passion was horses. She was active in the Utah Arabian Horse Club for many years. She had her own business in Lehi, where she boarded and trained horses. She was an accomplished rider and won many awards over the years. She also participated in several Days of 47 parades. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her brother, Lynn and his wife Eileen Venter; her nephew Mike Venter of Plain City. She is also survived by her beloved horses, Lucky, Hatch and Calisto. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West. Friends and family may call Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m., – 12:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main prior to services.
