A hazel eyed boy with a zest for life and mischievous personality was born to Leslie and Helen Haacke on July 5, 1931. He grew up running around the streets of Bountiful, Utah. Growing up he was a rambunctious boy who loved being outside, playing sports with his brother Dale and teasing his twin sister, Colleen.
Throughout his teen years he played football and basketball for Davis High School. He met his sweetheart Joyce Nelson during his senior year. In 1949, following graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served 2 years and came home to serve 5 more years in the National Guard.
Upon arriving home, he married the love of his life, Joyce in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1952. Over the years, Cornell worked for Bountiful Lumber, as a carpenter, and at Flying J Oil Refinery until he retired in 1993. Throughout his life he spent much of his time in service of others, helping neighbors, serving his Church, and generously donating his talents with his carpentry and handyman skills. He and Joyce spent 7 years in a service calling at The Meadows helping residents with any needs.
Cornell had many interests in life but some of the things that gave him the most joy were gardening, baseball, golfing, puttering in the garage, building bird houses, doing home improvements, puzzle books, long day trip drives, ice cream, and playing & having fun with his kids which later carried on to his grandchildren.
Cornell leaves behind his 12 children….can you believe that? 12!!! Christy (Darrell) Veenendaal, Gayla (Steve) Quilter, Joni (Lee) Willis, Jana (Tim) Lawson, Shauna Dalton, Jay (Tammy) Haacke, Julie (Ricky) Long, Joel (Deb) Haacke, Kelly (Andrea) Haacke, Jamie Haacke (Michael Chikinda), Tracy Haacke, and Stephanie Haacke. He had 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Vanfleet. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, brother, and twin sister.
