Corrie Stringham Pantalon

July 7, 1992 — December 1, 2024

Corrie "Ava" Stringham Pantalon, was born in Chuncheon, Korea as Young Shil Sohn on July 7, 1992. Her adopted parents, Shand (COL-R, US Army) and Quin Stringham, searched for her for many years, learned about her the week before she was born, and held her in their arms when she was just 48 hours old. She was dreamed about, fasted and prayed for, and welcomed by everyone in her family. We are all saddened that Corrie, on December 1, 2024, left this earth too soon at the age of 32, having battled the challenges of mental illness off and on, especially these past few years. As the baby of five adopted children, Corrie was 6 months old when her adoption in Korea was completed just in time for her to leave Korea with her family and to move to Carlisle, PA where her father was assigned to his last duty assignment with the US Army at the United States Army War College. This international girl was now forced to grow up in a small east coast town, longing one day to leave and travel the world, and she did.

On May 4, 2018, Corrie married Ion "Nanu" Pantalon, from Romania. Although he left the marriage and their divorce was final on October 24, 2024, together Corrie and Ion traveled to most of Europe, Japan, Korea, China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Maldives, Bali, India, Turkey, Singapore, Dubai. She also made it to 44 of the 50 United States.

Reading and learning, that was Corrie! She loved being the top student of her home school (grades 1-8) and her high school Cyber School, class of 2012. She continued to be a top student, attending BYU and then BYU Hawaii, graduating with a BA in Music. She was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, harp, and was self-taught on the ukulele and guitar. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She returned this September to the BYU MBA program, which she began in April of 2023.

Corrie loved the Lord and as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served as a full-time proselyting missionary in the Oakland/San Francisco, California Mission from July 2013 to December 2013, returning home early due to illness. Animals (especially her two dogs, a Pomeranian named Bunny [Boo-Boo] and a toy poodle named Cookie) were one of Corrie's great loves. She fostered cats and kittens as a volunteer foster parent for the Humane Society of Utah. She loved children and longed to be a mother, her greatest unfulfilled desire. Growing up, she was a popular babysitter and piano teacher for children and youth. She volunteered as a mentor for the Children's Justice Center and UStrive.

Corrie found joy in so many things. She loved the mountains of Utah and especially enjoyed hiking the trails around Bridal Vail Falls. She had such fun working out at the Orem Community Rec Center and loved her Zumba friends! She found delight in dad jokes. Dark chocolate and sushi were two of her favorite foods. She really enjoyed cooking and enjoyed challenges like making every recipe in the Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking Cook Book. She loved Korean food, especially kimchi and Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew). Corrie loved playing group games, especially Rummikub. She enjoyed online gaming, her favorite game being Overwatch. She recently shared with her mom (who misunderstood what Corrie's role was in the game), "I am a healer… I am there to heal others and make the world better."

In Corrie's work experience, she was so happy to be part of the Web Design team at the Life Sciences Dept of BYU where she recently started in September. In prior employments, she worked as a project manager for Microclimate.com and Damon's Brave New World, as a software Engineer for iDrive Interactive, and as a relationship banker for Citizens Bank.

Corrie leaves behind her parents, Shand and Quin Stringham of Carlisle, PA; brother Carson Stringham and wife Jen, and their four children: Joshua, Caryn, Cristopher, and Jessa of Lawton, OK; sister Cammi Barrick and her partner Samuel Madewell, and her children Bailey and Mason Barrick of Mount Pleasant, TN; her brother Caleb Stringham and wife Becky, and their three boys: Colton, Micah, and Bryson of Media, PA; sister Casey Stringham, her fiancé Gabriel Rodriguez, and her son Jeremiah Stringham of Carlisle, PA; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all who mourn her loss.

Many have shared thoughts about Corrie as to how kind and thoughtful she was. She had the kindest, most sensitive, sweet spirit and did not understand the unkindness in the world. That was truly a struggle for her. Heaven has welcomed a pure spirit, our sweet Angel Corrie!

Her family extends special thanks to Corrie's Ward family from the Sunset Heights 3rd Ward in Orem, Utah, and Utah friends and family members for the love and support, especially over the past many months!
