On the morning of Sunday, October 10th, 2021, Cory Marc Horton returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. At the young age of 41, Cory passed away peacefully, after suffering a stroke caused by complications of COVID-19.
Cory was born in Bountiful, Utah, on February 21st, 1980, to Marc Horton and Megan Ashcroft. Cory was blessed with an older brother named Brock, who he equally looked up to, and enjoyed getting into mischief with. Years later, he found a soft spot in his heart, with the birth of his little sister Randi, who he adored all his life. Marc and Megan later divorced. When Cory was 13 years old, Megan married Gary Ashcroft, who has loved and raised Cory as his own. On July 19th, 2003, Cory and Randi were sealed to Gary and Megan as an eternal family, in the Salt Lake Temple. Cory’s dad, Marc was later remarried to Robin, who was always kind and dear to him. Cory was very close to his immediate, and extended family. He especially loved time spent together at Bear Lake, and watching BYU games with his Grandpa Roberts.
Cory loved all sports, and grew up playing basketball, baseball, and football. He lettered as a sophomore at Woods Cross High, playing and starting in many varsity games. Cory was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a self-taught auto-mechanic, and craftsman. He was blessed to be mentored as a roofer by his step-father, Gary. Later in life, Cory would go on to start his own successful roofing company, Ensign Roofing. He had an incredible work ethic, while still making time for his family and loved ones.
Cory met his childhood sweetheart, Jenny Jewkes, at South Davis Junior High, and the rest is history. Cory loved Jenny whole-heartedly, and anyone who knows them, has witnessed the unbreakable love they share. They married young, on March 17th, 1997, and were later sealed in the Bountiful Temple, on March 13th, 1999. Cory and Jenny quickly welcomed their children: Mason, Brooke, and Kobe. After many years of prayers, tears, and heartbreak, Jacee joined their family through the gift of adoption. With their family complete, Cory wasted no time making memories together. He was a pedal to the metal kind of guy, in the way he drove, and in the way he lived his life. He could hardly sit still. If he had a free minute, he was spending it with his family; golfing, skiing, swimming, vacationing, watching sports on TV, and attending BYU and Jazz games.
Cory has always supported his kids in their extracurricular activities and endeavors, and gave them the freedom to be themselves. Cory was the best example of that, as he was so authentically his own person. He was full of life, and made everything fun, while being his goofy self. To look back now, it’s easy to see that Cory packed a lifetime of memories for his family to treasure, in the time that he was given. He was blessed to see his two oldest children married, and was overjoyed when he recently became a grandfather. What a gift for him to have that time here on earth with his sweet granddaughter, Saylor. He is undoubtedly spending time in heaven now, with his grandchildren yet to come.
Cory and Jenny share a deep love for the gospel of Jesus Christ, that they’ve instilled in their children. They believe with all their hearts that Cory lives on in heaven, where he is at peace, and will never be too far away to feel his guidance and love, until they are together again.
Cory was met on the other side by his beloved grandparents, Mary Ellen and William Reed Roberts, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his adoring wife Jenny, and their four children: Mason (Kennedy), Brooke (Keaton), Kobe (Sydney), Jacee, and his precious granddaughter Saylor. His paternal grandparents, Dianne and Boyd Horton. Loving parents: Megan and Gary Ashcroft and Marc and Robin Horton. His siblings: Brock Horton (Asenath), and Randi Huston (John). He also leaves behind dear step-siblings, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and employees, who will miss him so greatly. His memory will be cherished, and kept alive by all who loved him.
