Coy Cutler Hogan

Coy Cutler Hogan, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away peacefully August 15, 2021, from health complications associated with COVID 19 and Alzheimer’s disease.

Coy was born December 12, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ivan Burton Cutler and Beth Ashton Cutler. She grew up in Salt Lake City in a loving home where she was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and the value of hard work. As the oldest of ten children, she spent countless hours helping care for her younger siblings and assisting with household tasks. She graduated from Granite High School in 1964.

While attending the College of Southern Utah, she met John Dennis Hogan on a blind date. They married on April 7, 1967, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They have enjoyed over 50 years of married life together. Even in recent years, Coy’s face would light up when Dennis arrived for a visit at the memory care facility.

To Coy, family was paramount. She was a dedicated mother to Janeece, Niles, Craig and Wade and encouraged them to be well-rounded, honorable people. She loved each of her 18 grandchildren and she remained close to her siblings all her life. One of the highlights of her week was spending Sunday evenings visiting family. She was a fixture at family reunions and other family events.

Coy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved attending church and was calmed by spiritual things. She always seemed in better spirits after church or listening to the Tabernacle Choir. Coy and Dennis served two LDS missions in Fresno, California and Little Rock, Arkansas.

Coy had a sense of humor that allowed her to laugh at herself and at life. She showed genuine interest in people by asking questions and learning from their experiences. She faithfully read the newspaper each night and often cut out articles to share with the people she loved. Coy struggled with many health problems over the years, including epilepsy and early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Yet despite her challenges, she always tried her best and persevered through trials. Coy kept her positive attitude until the end. When asked by a nurse in the last few hours of her life how she was doing, she responded “just fine.”

Coy is survived by her husband Dennis Hogan, their four children, Janeece (Moses) Escobar, Niles Hogan, Craig (Amy) Hogan, Wade (Kristen) Hogan and 18 Grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Claudia (Louie) Van Orden, Chris (Mila) Cutler, Raymond (Laurie) Cutler, Bonita (Stewart) Hughes, Connie (Steve) Knowles, Ralph (Sharon) Cutler, Willard (Kimberly) Cutler, Louise (Andy) Williams, Paul (Sherry) Cutler. She was preceded in death by son Robert, daughter-in-law Kristine, parents Ivan and Beth Cutler, and siblings Douglas, Garr, Ivan, and Burton.

Viewings will take place on Thursday August 19, 2021 from 7-9 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St, Bountiful, and Friday August 20, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Centerville North Stake Center, 1461 N. Main Street, Centerville, UT.
A graveside service will follow at the Centerville Cemetery at 11 a.m.
