Craig Dan Black

December 8, 1953 — June 3, 2015

Craig Dan Black, M.D. passed away at his home in Bountiful, Utah on June 3, 2015 at the age of 61. Craig is survived by his best friend and wife of thirty-six years: Carolyn Talmage Black; his three sons: Dan (Kimberly), Cameron (Sarah), Chris (Jessi); three siblings: Boyd (Janice), David (Rebecca), and Gayla; and his five grandchildren: Carter, Ethan, Elyse, Emily, and Elsa.

Craig was born on December 8, 1953 in Fillmore, Utah to Waldo Jay and Dora Williams Black.  Craig spent his youth hunting, playing football, wrestling, playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and was ahead of his time enjoying Spiderman cosplay.  He graduated from Delta High School.  He attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a BS in Zoology.  He went on to graduate from the University of Utah Medical School.   Craig completed his pediatric residency at Primary Children’s Hospital.

In September 1978, Craig and Carolyn were married in the Salt Lake Temple.  Other than two years in Phoenix, Arizona, they lived in Bountiful, Utah their entire married life.  Dan joined their family in 1981, followed by Cameron in 1983, and Chris in 1985.

Craig loved children and was a beloved pediatrician in Bountiful for more than two generations.  He was also passionate about his time spent with the kids at South Davis Community Hospital.  After retiring last July, Craig spent his last months with his family, traveled with them, and almost perfected his recipe for smoked meats.  His favorite pastime was spending time (especially swimming) with his adored grandchildren.

A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary (295 N Main Street, Bountiful, Utah).  The funeral will be held at the Bountiful Central Stake Center (640 S 750 E, Bountiful, Utah) at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 8, 2015, with a viewing beforehand starting at 9:45 AM.  Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please send a donation to Primary Children’s Hospital in Craig’s memory.
