Craig F Anderson

ANDERSON, Craig Frederick, 73, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends, Thursday, December 27, 2018. Craig led a colorful, exciting and self-described “unorthodox” life. He grew up in Salt Lake and graduated from South High School. He was a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at University of Utah, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Geography and a minor in History. After graduation, Craig joined the Peace Corps and taught Geography and Science in Ghana.  Following the Corp, Craig pursued his Masters Degree in New York City at the Pratt Institute, studying City Planning. Craig worked for different government agencies in New York City for 7 years following his studies at Pratt. He changed paths years later to follow his passion for film by entering the Graduate Film Program at NYU. For the next 20 years, he lived in Brooklyn and worked in the industry producing and editing film and video. Craig loved photography, hiking, dance and travel. His travels took him to many countries in South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. Craig began annual trips to India where he was captivated by its people and culture. He helped fund medical procedures and improve housing and sanitation for the locals who quickly became his friends. After Craig’s parents passed, he returned to Salt Lake where he renewed friendships, taught part time, practiced yoga, and shared his passion for travel, politics and religion with anyone who would listen. Craig held Wasatch Mountain Club’s Annual Halloween Party at Brighton Ski Resort for 30 years, and was a fixture at the Coffee Garden at 9th and 9th in Salt Lake City. 

Craig was preceded in death by his parents Fern and Carl Anderson and his brother Don.  He is survived by his nephew Marcus Galt, grandnieces, Sarah and Shannon Galt, godchildren, Amma Safo-Agyekum of NYC, Ethan Molina of SLC and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Ward Chapel, 445 East Harvard Avenue, (1100 South), with a brief reception to follow and Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday, January 7, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, SLC, Utah and Tuesday, January 8, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
