Biography

BOUNTIFUL: Curtis Roland Johnson passed away on August 17, 2014 at home, surrounded by his beloved family, of causes incident to age. He was born in Salt Lake City on May 21, 1921, son of John Arthur Johnson and Ruth Hellberg Johnson. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from East High School and received advance education at LDS Business College, Stanford University and Santa Clara University.
He married Norma Gaisford on January 16, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple and she passed away in 1963. He married Mary Bell Tonioli on March 12, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple.
During World War II Curtis served 3 years in the U.S. Army, spending time in the European Theater with the 11th Armored Division and earning three battle stars. He spent a short time with the Military Government in Austria and Germany before returning home with an honorable discharge. He was a faithful High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership and supporting callings, including two bishoprics. He and Mary served a proselyting mission in the Texas, Houston Mission. Curtis worked many years as a devoted employee of Beneficial Life Insurance Co. and retired as Treasurer /Controller. He was a member of the Fellow of the Life Management Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter-in-law Carol Johnson (Robert-deceased); son-in-law Howard Call (Linda-deceased); daughter Marjie DiMattio (J.D.), Greensboro, MD; and sons, Christopher (Cheryl), Bountiful, UT; Scott (Lori), Olathe, KS; Bruce (Tanya), West Point, UT; and Troy (Rachel), Centerville, UT; 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Paul (Rosalind) Henneman, Beverly Hills, CA and Mrs. Ralph (Lorraine) Self, Salt Lake City, UT. He was devoted to his family and always enjoyed activities involving them. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, sons Robert & Gregory, daughter Linda Call, brother Kenneth, sisters Lillian & Eleanor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Bountiful 10th Ward, 1145 North 200 East. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, and Saturday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment- Bountiful City Cemetery.
