Curtis Earl Ravsten, 86, of Centerville, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones.
Curtis was born in Logan, Utah on August 16, 1938, and lived in Clarkston for about a year and in Cooley City, Washington before spending the rest of his childhood and teen years in Heyburn, Idaho. He graduated from Minico High School in 1956 and attended Ricks College for two years before serving his LDS mission to Finland for two and a half years.
Upon returning from his mission, he met Sherryl Waters. He attended Brigham Young University for a year while they continued courting long distance. They were married in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple in May 1962. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science and continued his education completing an MBA from BYU in May 1965.
Upon graduation, Curtis began employment with Computer Sciences Corporation in Richland, Washington. His employment took them to Boise, Idaho (Ernst & Young) and to Riverside, California (Fleetwood Enterprises). In 1977, Curtis started employment with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an Area Welfare Administrator in the Southern California pilot for the Welfare Department. Curtis transferred to the Welfare Services department at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1983. They moved their family to Centerville.
Curtis found great love and satisfaction in his employment with the Welfare Service Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and considered his career to be a great blessing before retiring in 2006.
Curtis enjoyed participating in the Boy Scouts of America. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and as a teenager spent a month at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. He returned with his family in 1976 to Philmont Scout Ranch to attend the Priesthood Leadership Training Conference. In 1981 the California Inland Empire Council awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service.
Curtis was very involved with service and church callings throughout his life. He loved serving with the youth as an early morning seminary teacher and in the youth programs. He served as ward clerk, elders quorum president, counselor in a bishopric, bishop, and a counselor in two stake presidencies. He especially loved teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Along with his wife Sherryl, they served a church service mission and enjoyed their years serving together as Ordinance Workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple.
Curtis enjoyed the mountains and high valleys and saw much of it while backpacking. He loved traveling with Sherryl and family in seeing the hand of God in the creations of the world. In his leisure time, he golfed, read, and watched BYU sports.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Mathias Ravsten and Verona Allen, his sister, Janell Arrington, and brothers, VerNon Ravsten and Lynn Ravsten, and son-in-law, Jade Pusey.
