Dale Carter Lewis
1935 ~ 2017
Dale Carter Lewis, 82, born January 25, 1935, son of Foss Sessions and Irene Denning Lewis of Bountiful Utah, passed peacefully in the arms of his sweetheart, Linda Lee and daughter, Lori Ann on Monday, May 22, 2017 of complications associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dale leaves his wife of 42 years, Linda Lee Lewis, his son, Robert Lewis and his spouse, Diana, his son, Nicholas Lewis and his daughter, Lori Ann, his sisters, Joyce Reed, Karen Carlson, Linda and Gerald (Buck) Frampton, Lela And Clint Belnap, sister-in-law, Sue Lewis, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many close friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Maxine Thrall, his brothers, Dan and Dave Lewis, his brothers-in-law, Grant Carlson, Roy Reed and sister-in-law, Elaine Lewis.
Dale was a humble and modest man, never one to push himself into the spotlight; he would encourage others to shine and would take such joy in their successes.
Dale spent the majority of his life doing what he truly loved, working alongside his siblings helping to build and grow the family business (Foss Lewis and Sons Construction) that his parents established in 1936. They played a huge role in the development of Bountiful City, cutting in the original roads in the Bountiful City Cemetery, city streets, excavating many of the schools, digging many residential basements, providing clean up and repair from the floods of 1983 and so much more. Dale’s heart and soul truly resided in Bountiful.
Dale was a true family man; he loved his family and adored his grandchildren. As much as he preferred staying in the background, he was always out front as a leader and a teacher. He was always the first one on the job and the last to pull off. He never expected and asked anyone to do anything that he was not willing to do himself. He set the standard and led by example.
Dale enjoyed many activities and had an incredible passion for Caterpillar machinery. He was an artist with his talent and ability to operate his loader and most any piece of heavy equipment. He was also quite fond of Ford automobiles; he had no problem letting you know that if it was not a Ford it was only okay at best. He loved racing of all kinds with his fondest memories coming from racing stock cars with his brothers in their younger years. He loved spending time in the outdoors; he loved hunting and fishing all the while making sure he was teaching the beauty of being one with nature.
During retirement he developed an amazing talent of hand crafting elaborate wood doll houses in the company of his two favorite dogs, Lawnie and Basil, by his side.
We want to thank the staff at the Legacy House memory care unit for their love, support, care and going the extra mile to make Dale feel comfortable and safe. Many of you became a part of his family. With a special thanks to Mr. Zig Peacock, another resident. Dale and Zig formed a friendship and looked out for each other. Zig you touched us deeply with your standing salute as he passed through the doors for the last time. Love You!
