Dale Lorrin Russon

Dale L. Russon, age 87, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 16, 1925 in Lehi, Utah to Wilford and Clara Wing Russon. He married his High School sweetheart, Mava Margaret McAffee in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on his birthday, February 16, 1944.
Dale attended Lehi High School and loved sports and played on the basketball and football teams, and in his senior year was named to the All-State basketball team. He also participated on the track team and the school band. After High School he attended the College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, CA and in 1943 received his funeral directors license from the State of Utah. Dale served in the U.S. Navy and trained as an Operating Room Technician, serving in the Seattle Naval Hospital and Bremerton Naval Hospital. After his discharge from the Navy, Dale and Mava settled in Salt Lake City where they raised their four children: Lynette, Marilyn, Kathleen, and Gary. In 1954, along with his brothers Milton and Leo, founded and operated Russon Brothers Mortuaries. Dale was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Elders Quorum President, YM President, counselor in the Bishopric, Sunday School teacher, Priest Quorum teacher, host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, Assistant in the High Priests Group leadership, Stake High Councilor, President of the Oakland, California Mission, Bishop of the Monument Park 3rd Ward, and Director of the Oakland Temple Visitors Center. He loved fishing, boating, spending time with his family at the cabin, traveling, and the Utes. We will miss dad and his humor and good nature, and greatly appreciate his legacy of faith and love for the Lord.
Dale is survived by his wife, Mava; children: Lynette (Boyd) Paxton; Marilyn (Rick) Sutter; Kathy (Patrick) Waldram; Gary (WenDee) Russon. 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Milton and Leo.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the Foothill 7th Ward (2215 East Roosevelt Ave) Family and Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary (255 South 200 east) and Thursday at the Ward from 10:00 am to 11:30 am prior to the service.
