Dale Stevens

August 5, 1932 — January 27, 2013

Biography

Dale Bayles Stevens, 80, of Bountiful passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 of complications resulting from a stroke. Born August 5, 1932 in Provo, Utah, he spent his youth in Provo, Blanding, and Tooele dreaming of being a cowboy.

Dale is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janeen, son David (Karene) of Layton, daughter Anne Taylor (Kirk) of Kaysville, son Michael (Karen) of Oak Hill, Virginia, 20 grandchildren and their spouses, 4 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

A descendant of San Juan (Hole in the Rock) pioneers, Dale was a man of great ingenuity, determination and persistence. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a pre-med degree, but ultimately made his career as a successful construction contractor in California and Utah. He started his business in 1965 with little money and limited knowledge of the industry, but succeeded by using his extreme tenacity and work ethic to forge a business enterprise with branches that survive to this day. A born leader and captain of men, Dale actively managed his business for over 40 years. His efforts blessed the lives of thousands of employees and their families.

Dale was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as a pragmatic example of righteous living all his days. He served as a Stake Missionary while living in Lancaster, CA in the 1960s, achieving successes that helped build the church in that community. He also served his country in occupied Germany during the Korean War era.

Gregarious and affable, Dale was beloved by all who knew him. Free with his resources, he helped friends, family, and employees without reservation. Always witty, Dale was quick with a corny joke or a snappy retort.

Dale spent the last ten years of his life suffering the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. On many occasions during those years he would ask family members to direct him to the location of his mother and brother, both long deceased. He finally found his way back to them.
